Beechview Construction Shuttle

The Beechview Construction Shuttle was a temporary shuttle route offered by PAT during the LRT construction in Beechview. It was run with cutaway van style buses. Its primary purpose was to serve residents in the vicinity of the Alton, Westfield, Pennant, and Traymore stops because the geography of the area made sending a regular bus impossible.

Garages assigned to the Beechview Construction Shuttle:

Collier Garage - 04/15/84 - 05/23/87

Destination Signs:

Operated with window cards only.

Routing:

Original 1984 AM round trip routing from Broadway at Fallowfield, via Fallowfield, Sebring, Westfield, Andick, Lettie Hill, Sebring, Orangewood, Princess, Westfield, Hampshire, Cape May, Dagmar, Sebring, Beechview to Broadway at Fallowfield.

Original 1984 PM round trip routing from Broadway at Fallowfield, via Fallowfield, Sebring, Dagmar, Cape May, Hampshire, Westfield, Princess, Orangewood, Sebring, Lettie Hill, Andick, Westfield, Sebring, Beechview to Broadway at Fallowfield.

1985 AM round trip routing from Broadway at Fallowfield, via Fallowfield, Sebring, Westfield, Andick, Lettie Hill, Sebring, Orangewood, Princess, Westfield, Hampshire, Cape May, Dagmar, Sebring, Beechview to Broadway at Fallowfield.

1985 PM round trip routing from Broadway at Fallowfield, via Fallowfield, Sebring, Dagmar, Cape May, Hampshire, Westfield, Princess, Orangewood, Andick, Westfield, Sebring, Beechview to Broadway at Fallowfield.

The AM routing was in effect from 5am until 2pm and then the PM routing was in effect from 2pm until 1am.

A limited service extension to the Beechview Construction Shuttle was instituted effective 02/15/87 between Broadway at Fallowfield to St. Pamphilus Church on weekdays only. The routing: Broadway at Fallowfield, via Fallowfield, Sebring, Beechview, Crane, Tropical to church parking lot. Return was from the church parking lot via Tropical, Crane, Beechview to Broadway and Fallowfield.

Route Highlights:

  • Started: 04/15/84 as a temporary shuttle.

  • Ended: 05/23/87 when LRT service resumed in Beechview starting 05/24/87.

  • The Beechview Construction Shuttle ran 7 days a week including holidays.

  • The route was run with leased Ford Econoline cutaway shuttle buses by PAT operators.

  • The reason for the change in routing for the PM trips is not currently known.

  • The 02/15/87 service extension to St. Pamphilus Church was due to almost constant requests by residents along the discontinued 44A Shadycrest route. By the time the extension was implemented, the Beechview Construction Shuttle only had a few more months of operation and there was another gap in service to the Shadycrest area until the 44H route was created in August of 1987.

Schedules (Known PAT issued schedules are listed):

The Beechview Construction Shuttle had 1 distinct schedule style issued.

The schedules issued from Collier Division were a 5 panel fold out schedule in black and carried the folder number C-30. The Beechview Construction Shuttle shared a folder with the 38 Mt. Lebanon bus and 42 Potomac Only bus and for a short time, the 44A Shadycrest.
