45A Heidelberg - Kane Hospital

Route 45A came into PAT's route structure from the Bigi Bus Company Heidelberg - Kane Hospital Shuttle in 1964. This route was a shuttle route that mostly carried hospital staff and ran one trip to Kane and one trip from Kane. Bigi never numbered this route. Due to its short existence, location and early elimination from the PAT route hierarchy, not much is known about it.

Garages assigned to the 45A:

Bridgeville - Greentree Region - 03/11/64 - ??/??/66

Destination Signs:

Route ran strictly with window cards.

Routing:

Routing from Heidelberg - Collier Street and Washington Avenue via Washington Avenue to Vanadium Road, Montgomery, Gamble, Vanadium Road to South entrance road of Kane Hospital.

Routing from Kane Hospital - South Entrance road of Kane Hospital to Vanadium Road, Gamble, Montgomery, Vanadium Road, Washington Avenue to Heidelberg at Collier Street.

A one way trip on the regular routing took approximately 15 minutes

Route Highlights:

  • Started 03/11/64 (PAT acquisition date of Bigi).

  • Ended ??/??/66 due to low ridership.

  • The 45A ran one North bound and one South bound trip daily during peak hours.

Schedules (Known PAT issued schedules are listed):

The 45A had 1 distinct style of schedule.

The schedules issued by the Bridgeville - Greentree Region were folder BG-12 and were a schedule card.

BG-12A - 01/31/65
BG-12B - ?
BG-12C - 02/27/66

There may have been a few PAT schedules issued prior to BG-12A as the very early schedules tended not to have folder numbers and/or were reissued former operator schedules.

Route Disposition:

The 45A was discontinued due to low ridership. It does not appear that PAT extended a route to accommodate the 45A trips to Heidelberg. The 41B Bower Hill already served Kane Hospital but not from the Heidelberg end.

The route map for the 45A needs to be drawn up.
