50A Colonial Village - Wilson Newtown

Route 50A could trace its history back to the former Mon Valley Bus Company which was part of the Noble J. Dick Lines out of Large, PA. Prior to the Mon Valley Bus Company, the route can be traced as far back as 1923 when a line was created by the Clairton City Bus which connected Clairton and Wilson Newtown. An extension of the original line was added in 1940 to serve the new Colonial Village development in Clairton and the route then adopted the Colonial Village - Wilson Newtown name. Officially this was the Mon Valley Bus Company Route 3.

Garages assigned to the 50A:

Brentwood Garage - 06/26/64 - 03/30/68
McKeesport Garage - 03/31/68 - 06/15/68

Destination Signs:

Route ran with window cards and destination signs. The 50A also showed up on the full size signs for the area in 1969 but wasn't used as the route had been discontinued.

The above is typical of what you would have seen for the 50A. The only other possible combination on the split sign readings was a "To Clairton" reading but most likely ran with the "coach" reading.

Route Highlights:

  • Started: 06/26/64 (Date of Mon Valley acquisition)

  • Ended: 06/15/68

  • The 50A ran only Monday through Saturday with no Sunday or holiday service.

  • Colonial Village and Woodland Terrace service was closely linked to the 50B Glassport and both routes served much of the same routing.

Schedules (Known PAT issued schedules are listed):

The 50A had one distinct schedule style from Brentwood, carrying folder number B-10 and using the 60's era styling in a fold out schedule combined with the 50B, 50C. 50E and 50G.

M-11D - 03/31/68

There may have been schedules issued prior to B-10A as very early schedules were simply reprints of the former operator schedule.
