Route 46C came into PAT's route
structure as an acquired route from the Brentwood Motor Coach Company as their route number 6 which was
started in 1941. PAT redesignated Brentwood route 6 on 12/29/64 to the 46C and issued the
first schedule. Its main routing paralleled the 46B Baldwin Manor route closely until the
intersection of Baptist Road and Hamilton where they split. The 46B also had alternate
routings that extended further out on the 46C route to South Park Road at Brightwood.
Garages assigned to the 46C:
- Brentwood Garage - 03/04/64 - 09/03/66
Destination Signs:
2100 - 2200 series split sign examples
1000 - 2000 series split sign examples
A couple of the many other combinations available for the route |
Route ran with window cards and destination signs. The
46C had readings similar to the above examples. The reading was not on single curtain
signs while the route was in service but at one point at least one order of single curtain
signs received a 46C reading.

Route Highlights:
Started 03/04/64 (date of Brentwood's takeover)
Ended 09/03/66
The 46C was routed through 3 fare zones (zones 1 through 3 under the
original zone boundries).
15 outbound and 13 inbound trips Monday through Friday, 11 outbound
and inbound trips on Saturday.
The alternate route was Brentwood's main routing for their route 6.
PAT realigned the route to parallel the 46B on the main routing and used the Library Road
portion as limited service. The Horning Road deviation was from Brentwood's service and
remained after PAT took over operations.
Interesting to note is that PAT more than tripled the service on the
Ruthfred Acres route after they took over service. Under Brentwood, the old route 6 served
only 4 trips daily and under PAT it was over 12 round trips daily.
There is mention that the route 46C wasn't designated as such until
12/29/64. We are trying to confirm this.
Schedules (Known PAT issued schedules are listed):
The 46C had 1 distinct schedule style.
Brentwood Garage schedules were folder B-3 and was combined with the
46B in the folder. It was a 5 panel fold out schedule in the standard 60's era style and
closely combined with the 46B Baldwin Manor.
- B-3A - 01/31/65
- B-3B - 04/11/65
- B-3C - ?
- B-3D - ?
- B-3E - 02/27/66 - Corrected to 06/26/66
There may have been schedules issued prior to B-3A as very early
schedules were issued without folder numbers and were frequently reprints of the former
operator's schedule.
Route Disposition:
Replaced by new trial service of the 49C Washington Road - Whitehall
and the 49D Drake - South Park Road at the outer portion of the route and the 46B Baldwin
Manor assumed the inner portion of the route on 9/4/66 due to much of the route being
duplicated by the 46B. The new 49C and 49D routes added additional service to the
outlaying portion of the line.
